Antarctica...We Are Here!

The Drake Passage, some of the most fearsome water in the world, was a calm lake.  How lucky are we not to have been tossed around like most travelers who sail these waters.

At about 9:00 PM last night we crossed into Antarctica.  We are carrying an Ice Captain to help navigate through the icebergs that fill these waters. Haven't seen any yet. Just sighted Deception Island.

The area had been fog filled all morning, but it suddenly lifted and there was Antarctic land. Two whales were sailing along with the ship and we are seeing birds (diving petrels, albatross), and penguins in the water. It's too cold to be outside for long, but we are headed to the Observation Lounge for a better view.  We'll post pix as Jim gets them.
