Antarctica defies description. The vastness, the pristine beauty of nature unspoiled, the one place left on earth that we are trying to save. The color ranges from blue to gray and, yes, it is cold down here (mid 30s). We spent two days cruising Deception Bay, Paradise Bay and Half Moon Bay. We have seen whales, albatross and other birds, as well as penguins.
We spent the night just outside Deception Bay and had hoped to cruise it one more time yesterday. But the winds were gusting at about 65 knots with driving snow, so we had to make tracks out of the area. We made contact with an Argentina research station and they invited us for a visit. Unfortunately, maritime law doesn’t allow us to touch land.
The passengers have been held captive to the Observation Lounge for the last three days. It’s a visual experience that photographs cannot capture, but we'll try to give you a glimpse of what we have seen.
This is the ship in the news two months ago that got tossed around in the huge storm |
When the sky is blue, it is amazing. |
